American Shorthair – the pattern master
American Shorthair cats are intelligent and curious. They love watching birds through the window and are famous for their daily bouts of „goofiness". For breeders, the draw is the huge richness of coat colors and patterns.

American Shorthair genetics in the game
This is the pattern breed of Catmaster: four tabby patterns – classic, mackerel, spotted and ticked – plus silver and cameo shaded coats controlled by the inhibitor gene. With 22 eye color variants and 10 nose variants, no two American Shorthairs look alike.
Temperament and shows
Each cat rolls one of six personality types. A dominant cat of any breed gets a bonus in agility contests; breed and coat color do not affect show scores. In real life, the American Shorthair is a hardy, athletic former working cat.
The breed in the real world
Their ancestors arrived in America on settlers’ ships as working cats. The breed was registered by the CFA in 1906 and received its current name in 1965.
FAQ
➜What tabby patterns are in the game?
Four: classic, mackerel, spotted and ticked (ticked is dominant). Combined with silver and cameo shaded coats, the breed offers the widest pattern variety in Catmaster.
➜What are shaded coats?
Silver and cameo shaded coats appear when a cat inherits the inhibitor gene from both parents, which suppresses pigment in part of each hair; a separate shaded gene decides between silver and cameo – a mechanic modeled on real cat genetics.
